Prayer for Jealousy

Are you jealous about the life you wish you had?

Are you jealous of the life that other people have?

Do you long for a life that is different?

here is a prayer you can pray to help you overcome caregiver jealousy:

Dear Lord,

Caregiving is difficult.  Not only is it physically and mentally draining, but the envy I feel over the life I lost is exhausting.  When I see other people living carefree and fun lives, I become jealous.  Others are living the easy life I once lived.  Watching them causes me to struggle with resentment and bitterness over my own circumstances.

Father, please help me not to look at what I have lost or what other people have.  Instead, please help me to seek You and Your kingdom first (Matthew 6:33).

You said, in Isaiah 26:3, that You would keep a person in perfect peace if that person’s mind is stayed on You.  When my thoughts shift to the life I wish I had, my mind is not on You.  Looking at lifestyles and situations I wish I had, prevents me from focusing on You and causes me to lose my peace.

Lord, help me to “guard against all covetousness” (Luke 12:15).  Whenever jealousy arises in me, help me to remember that “Godliness with contentment is great gain.  For we brought nothing into the world and we cannot take anything out of the world” ( 1 Timothy 6:6-8).  Lord, all the friendships I lost, I did not bring into the world.  I also did not bring finances or time into this world.

Please help me to stop focusing on all that I do not have.  Instead, let me only focus on You.  Thank You, Lord, that You are enough.
